By
the grace of God I have been chosen in life to be a potter.
The decision to follow this path did not come easy for me.
It has been a long road to where I am today, and I know the
journey has just begun. I have been making pottery for eight
years, beginning at Winter Park High School in Central Florida.
It was there that my teacher, Mr. Jim Phillips, taught me
the basics of the art and began my training in sculptural
forms. I began college not wanting to pursue Ceramics, but
after two years at Abilene Christian University in Abilene,
Texas, I felt the need to change my major and move in that
direction.
My
work is a mixture sculptural and functional forms. In my functional
work I mainly seek to create elegant flowing forms, mostly
with straight lines and soft edges. In my sculptural work
I try to harness the effects of movement. I have also begun
experimenting with low relief. I enjoy the
process of carving into the clay, essentially using it as
my canvas. I have been influenced by the free flowing work
of Paul Soldner and also the geometric precision of James
Watkins. I have recently moved back to Central Florida after
attending college in Abilene, Texas, and am opening a studio
in Sanford, Florida. Clay is my passion and I hope to have
many years of throwing ahead. In all my work, no matter what
shape or form it takes, I hope and pray that God is glorified,
for He is the Great Potter who continuously molds and shapes
us to be what he wants us to be.
